Skincare: Prepping the Canvas

Texture issues with your foundation often originate beneath it. Understanding the chemical synergy between your skincare acids, humectants, and makeup formulas is critical.

Ingredient Breakdowns

Cut through the marketing jargon. Here is what active ingredients actually do for your skin texture prior to makeup application.

Regulates sebum production, which significantly extends the wear-time of matte foundations. However, concentrations above 5% can cause irritation and redness that makeup struggles to cover.
While HA is trendy, it requires a humid environment to function well under makeup. In dry climates, it can pull moisture from the skin, causing foundation to crack. Glycerin provides a much more stable, slightly tacky base for makeup to grip.
Crucial for removing micro-flakes of dead skin that foundation clings to. BHA (Salicylic Acid) is oil-soluble, clearing pores to prevent the "strawberry skin" look under sheer tints. Must be used the night before, not the morning of, to avoid chemical burns from UV exposure.
